A girl playing with her parents' cigarette lighter accidentally caused a fire inside a bedroom in the Piney Woods area, the Chattanooga Fire Department announced in a release tonight.
The call came in at 7:54 p.m., with a report of a fire inside a duplex in the 4900 block of Jeffery Lane. The girl, who is 3 or 4 years old, got out safely with her parents. Nobody was living in the other half of the duplex.
The fire department contained the fire to the bedroom, according to the release. But the fire still caused about $20,000 worth of damage. American Red Cross volunteers responded to the scene to help the family.
