UPDATE: The warrants for Aron Richard Reed have been dismissed and he has been released from custody in Louisiana.

Further investigation of inconsistencies in the story led to an interview of the mother of the child, Jenneffer Luke, and investigators determined that she lied about the kidnapping taking place in Dalton, Ga.

Luke told a Dalton investigator that Reed did fail to return the child to her custody in Bradley County, Tenn., in the summer but was told by authorities that she would have to pursue it as a civil matter.

After learning that the laws in Georgia would likely lead to criminal charges for Reed, she apparently decided to report the crime there.

Dalton police will be seeking warrants against Luke for felony false statements and misdemeanor false report of a crime at a later date. Phoenix Luke is safe and currently with his father in Louisiana.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police in Dalton, Ga., are seeking a man they say kidnapped his 1-year-old son during an overnight visit.

Aron Richard Reed, 28, had permission from the child's mother to take the child, Phoenix Reed, on an overnight visit to Cleveland, Tenn., on Oct. 21, police spokesman Bruce Frazier said in a news release.

Investigators said Reed didn't bring Phoenix home and may have taken him to Louisiana. Phoenix is not believed to be in any danger, Frazier said, but warrants have been issued for Aron Reed's arrest on charges of kidnapping and interference with child custody.

According to the release, Reed told the child's mother through Facebook that he was taking the boy to Louisiana, where he has a girlfriend and family. Then he deleted his Facebook account.

The other waited until Thursday to make a police report, Frazier said, because her friends told her it was a civil issue and she needed a lawyer, not police. She retained an attorney, who advised to to notify police.

Aron Reed is a white male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Chris Tucker at 706-278-9085, extension 9165.
