ORIGINAL STORY: Chattanooga police are investigating the death of a man on the 700 block of East 11th street Sunday night.
Sgt. Adam Emery said the call was reported as an unconscious party, and when medical personnel arrived, they determined the man was suffering from a gunshot wound. The man died on scene.
It was not yet clear where the shooting took place or if it was self-inflicted. It was also not yet known if the man was homeless.
At 8:15 p.m., crime scene tape encircled a small section of Passenger Street — formerly known as Baldwin Street — between East 10th and East 11th streets.
A body covered with a white sheet could be seen on the side walk as police walked the perimeter with flashlights looking for any evidence.
Children were playing in an apartment building's courtyard just on the other side of the crime scene.
