Fixing part of Interstate 24 between the Williams and Long Street bridges will require shutting down the U.S. 27 eastbound entry ramp and narrowing traffic to a single lane all weekend.

The project involves removing concrete slabs from the center lane near mile marker 179 and pouring new concrete, which will require several hours to cure, a Tennessee Department of Transportation news release states.

Work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and must be complete by 6 p.m. Sunday, the release states. While the work is going on, the fast lane and center lane of easbound I-24 will be closed.

So will the U.S. 27 South ramp to I-24 East. Motorists will have to take I-24 West to Browns Ferry Road (exit 175) and then work their way back east.

Signs and message boards will warn of the closure and detour, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will help with traffic control.

Drivers are asked to slow down and be extra-careful in the work zone.
