PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - An inmate has died at an Alabama county jail in an apparent suicide.

News outlets report Russell County Sheriff Health Taylor said in a news conference Tuesday that 43-year-old Randy Jean Turner was found unresponsive around 8 a.m. Tuesday when officers returned a cellmate. Taylor says authorities believe Turner hung himself with a sheet.

Correctional officers performed CPR and he was taken to Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Turner was booked into at Russell County Jail on Sunday afternoon on a count of third-degree domestic violence, a misdemeanor charge. He was also wanted in Kentucky on a probation violation warrant.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
