Georgia wins series with 8-0 rout of Lady Vols

KNOXVILLE - The seventh-ranked Tennessee softball team lost its second straight Southeastern Conference weekend series when Georgia blanked the Lady Volunteers 8-0 on Monday night at Lee Stadium.

It was the second night in a row that the visiting Bulldogs (32-4, 9-3) beat Tennessee (31-6, 4-5) in six innings.

Justice Milz homered twice for Georgia. Her second blast of the night put the visitors up 8-0 in the top of the sixth inning, triggering the mercy rule when Tennessee failed to score in the bottom half.

Tennessee mustered four hits, committed three errors and missed on several other potential outs with uncharacteristically sloppy play.

Two days after earning the win in the Lady Vols' 1-0 series-opening victory, Matty Moss (14-2) took the Monday loss. Tennessee entered a series with South Carolina two weeks ago ranked No. 2 in the nation and sporting a 30-1 record.

The Lady Vols host Tennessee State on Tuesday before playing at No. 10 Auburn in a three-game series that begins Friday.
