Authorities in Marion County, Tenn., earlier this month conducted a roundup that netted 33 people on charges related to distribution of methamphetamine.
The weeklong operation was conducted between April 11 and 18 in a joint effort between the Twelfth Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Marion County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Unit, Sheriff Ronnie "Bo" Burnett said this week.
During the joint operation, law enforcement made numerous undercover purchases of methamphetamine and conducted surveillance on residences as well as business locations where suspected drug activity was taking place.
"[I]nvestigators have determined that the price of methamphetamine on the streets is at an all-time low and that more and more people are traveling to locations like Chattanooga and Atlanta for the purpose obtaining methamphetamine in order to bring it back to Marion County to use and [sell]," Burnett said.
Information gathered during such operations "often leads to future drug busts," he said. Burnett thanked police in Jasper, Kimball, New Hope, South Pittsburg and Whitwell for help with the operation.
