Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputies to be featured on 'COPS' television show

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office "Look Before You Lock" cruiser is seen outside of the HCSO's West Patrol Annex on Monday, July 10, in Hixson, Tenn. Two thermometers show the difference between the inside temperature of the vehicle and the approximate outside temperature. The outside temperature reads a few degrees higher than the actual temperature due to heat reflections from the vehicle and the asphalt.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has been chosen to be filmed by the "COPS" television show for several episodes to be released in fall 2018, according to a news release.

"COPS," now owned by the Paramount Network, is in its 31st season of filming and has become documentary partners with local and state law enforcement agencies across the nation and internationally for more than 30 years. The show is one of the longest-running television programs in the United States.

"I am very pleased that our agency has been chosen to partner with COPS to display the talent, expertise, and professionalism shown by our deputies not only to the members of our community, but to the world," Sheriff Jim Hammond said in a news release. "Many men and women who serve in law enforcement today, including several in our agency, watched COPS as a young adult and chose a profession in law enforcement based on what they saw on COPS. We can use this unique opportunity as a way to recruit the best and brightest to our ranks."

The executive director of "COPS" recently flew to Chattanooga to meet with Hammond and members of the sheriff's office command staff and public information officer to discuss final preparations for filming.

"COPS" personnel will be riding with Hamilton County deputies for several weeks during the months of May and June to capture numerous stories and incident footage for their television series.

Episodes hopefully will air in fall 2018.
