A man has been arrested in connection to an armed robbery at 2727 Rossville Boulevard early Sunday morning.

Corey Birt, 32, is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of possessing a firearm with the intent to go armed, according to court records.

Birt walked up to a man and a woman at the Mapco gas station and asked for a ride, according to an arrest report. The two agreed, and let him get in the vehicle behind the driver, who was the woman.

After a few minutes, Birt pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and pointed it to the the woman's head, the report states. He then began choking her and shifted the gun's aim toward the man and demanded all of their money.

From the woman, Birt took about $500 in cash and an ATM card to her child support account, according to the report. And from the man, he took about $300 in cash, a cellphone and a tablet.

Birt then asked the victims to drive him a short distance away before he got out.

The victims separately picked Birt out of a photo lineup provided by Chattanooga police, the report states. He was arrested at his home without incident.

Birt has an arrest record in Hamilton County dating back to 2004, court records show. Most of his charges are drug-related.
