Hixson man charged with killing teen son

Detectives say a man has been charged with killing his 15-year-old son in Saturday's shooting in Hixson.

Michael David McElrath, 46, shot the teen multiple times before running to a neighbor's house. He also killed the family dog.

He was taken into custody without incident by deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

He is charged with criminal homicide and remains jailed at the Hamilton County Jail on a $1 million bond.

One person is dead after a shooting late Saturday in Hixson.

Responding to a call just before 10:30 p.m., deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office found the victim in the 1800 block of Cotter Road. A suspect was taken into custody.
