A juvenile has been arrested for allegedly raping another student at Brainerd High School on Wednesday, the district says.
The rape occurred after dismissal on school grounds, the victim reported to school officials, according to a news release.
Administrators called law enforcement immediately and notified the Department of Children Services, the news release states.
Chattanooga police took the accused student into custody Wednesday night, according to the news release.
"We recognize our first responsibility to parents is to protect their children in our care, and we are deeply saddened that this incident has occurred," school Superintendent Bryan Johnson said in a statement.
The case is still under investigation.
