Sanofi U.S., the French pharmaceutical giant that purchased longtime Chattanooga company Chattem in 2010, filed an official notice with the state this week that they will be cutting 180 jobs.

The Times Free Press had previously reported that they were cutting 160 jobs at their Chattanooga location at 1715 West 38th St. last month. Sanofi spokeswoman Suzanne Jacobson said Tuesday that the 20 other jobs are field representative positions in other areas and not in Chattanooga.

The permanent layoffs are effective June 28, 2019, according to the WARN notice, or "Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification," filed with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce this week.

In November, Sanofi announced they were cutting 160 jobs in the city and sending the jobs, which include marketing, sales, research and development and some support functions, to New Jersey as it restructures its consumer health care business there.

Jacobson said Thursday that they are still in the process of seeing which local employees are willing and able to relocate to New Jersey.
