Former Vols receiver Jauan Jennings enrolled at Tennessee again

KNOXVILLE - Less than a week after new Tennessee football coach Jeremy Pruitt left the door open for Jauan Jennings' possible return to the Tennessee football program, the former star receiver is enrolled at the university again.

A student directory now shows that Jennings is an active student. When classes for the new term began last week, the directory indicated Jennings was not enrolled.

Pruitt said last week that he planned to meet with Jennings soon "and kind of see where things are at."

An athletics department spokesman said Monday night there was no update on Jennings' status.

A Monday report from John Brice of gridironnow.com indicated, citing sources, that Jennings could be reinstated to the football team with certain stipulations.

Adding Jennings back to the roster would be a jolt for a Tennessee receiving corps that lacked depth, size and experience as it dealt with injuries during the 2017 season.

Jennings had 40 catches for 580 yards and seven touchdowns in 2016, and he was Tennessee's leading returning receiver entering this past season. But he was injured in the opener against Georgia Tech and missed the rest of the season.

In late November, Jennings was kicked off the team by interim coach Brady Hoke after posting a rant on Instagram. In the video, Jennings used profanity several times and a racial slur repeatedly to express his displeasure with Tennessee's coaching staff.
