Multiple area law enforcement and rescue teams responded to reports that a woman had fallen in a cave off County Road 54 near Stevenson, Ala., Sunday evening.

A group of six college students were exploring the cave, when one member of the party fell into a pit and could not be located, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Several local rescue teams responded. Hamilton County's cave rescue team was en route, but did not end up responding because the caver was able to climb out herself.

The rescue teams transported the young woman to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The group were "experienced cavers with all the right gear, who just had an accident," according to Jackson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen.
