Woman found dead under I-20 overpass in Georgia

A woman's body was found under the I-20 overpass on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and Atlanta police are trying to figure out how she died.

"Manner and cause of death are pending autopsy, but it appears the female may have fallen from the overpass," Atlanta police Officer Lisa Bender said.

Just before 2 a.m. Monday, a driver called 911 and said there was a body in the roadway, police told Channel 2 Action News.

The driver did not stick around, and the woman was already dead by the time emergency crews arrived, Atlanta police Lt. Carven Tyus said. There were no obvious signs of trauma to the woman's body, according to police.

The woman appeared to be in her late 30s or early 40s, Tyus said.

The investigation blocked Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at West Lake Avenue for nearly three hours. The road reopened just before 5 a.m., Channel 2 reported.

Anyone with information about the woman's death is asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, by also contacting Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting crimestoppersatlanta.org.
