Six adults and no children were treated at Erlanger emergency rooms for burn injuries caused by fireworks on July 4, hospital officials said.

"This is the first time in four years we have not treated any pediatric patients for fireworks-related injuries," said Jeneen Carman, assistant vice president of emergency services for the Erlanger Health System.

Last year, Erlanger treated three adults and one child for fireworks-related injuries. In 2016, Erlanger treated 11 patients and eight the year before.

Erlanger officials also reported that 14 area residents were treated for dehydration on July 3 and 4 this year, and those patients were all adults.

"Although we treated two more patients for fireworks related injuries this year than last, we feel all the public service announcements surrounding child safety, heat and fireworks likely had an impact on this year's pediatric numbers," Carman said.
