Chattanooga police officers investigate the scene of a shooting on Arlington Avenue where one person was killed on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

A man was shot and killed at the Bayberry Apartments in the 1100 block of Arlington Avenue Wednesday evening.

Chattanooga police got the call at around 5 p.m., police spokesman Rob Simmons said. The victim had already died by the time police arrived.

No suspect information has yet been released.

Despite the heat, large groups of people congregated on the outskirts of the crime scene, including young children.

Investigators could be seen taking photos and placing markers throughout the evening.

By 7 p.m., emergency personnel arrived to remove the body from an apartment building stairwell, and the fire department arrived a few minutes later with what appeared to be cleaning supplies.

Some people began to leave at that point. No onlookers agreed to speak with reporters.
