Police say a man charged with stalking, harassment and electronic tracking of motor vehicles used a mobile app to follow his ex-girlfriend.

Officers responded to 900 Carter Street at 12:17 a.m. on Monday morning and spoke with the victim who said Jacob Grant, 20, was harassing her, according to court documents.

She said she was at City Cafe when he showed up on his motorcycle and started yelling at her in the parking lot. He threatened damage to her car, but left when she pulled out her phone to call police.

The victim said she had already called police on Grant in Ringgold, Georgia earlier in the day after he showed up and started yelling at her in another location. She told police she didn't know how he kept finding her.

Officers searched her car and found a cellphone belonging to Grant stuffed between two back seat cushions. The phone had "Find my iPhone" notifications.

The victim said Grant must have hidden the phone two days before when she went to calm him down after he threatened to commit suicide. She also showed officers text messages she sent to Grant asking him to stop contacting her.

Officers also noticed she had received 30 calls from an unlisted number immediately after she blocked Grant's number.

A friend who was a witness told police he had a screenshot of a message between a mutual friend and Grant in which Grant had asked the friend to hide the phone so he could track his ex-girlfriend.

Police found Grant a few blocks away from City Cafe, but he told them his phone had been stolen and he was trying to get it back. He did not reply when officers told him they had seen messages he sent to his ex-girlfriend.

Grant is next scheduled to appear in court before General Sessions Judge Clarence Shattuck on Aug. 16.
