Volkswagen of America today reported that sales climbed 6 percent in February over the same period a year ago as buyers continue to purchase more of the automaker's SUVs.
The Chattanooga-built Atlas SUV posted sales of 4,766 units for the month, the company said. The new 2018 Tiguan, made in Mexico, had sales of 7,486 in February.
SUV sales marked 54 percent of the vehicles delivered in February.
Sales of the Passat sedan, also assembled in Chattanooga, slid to 3,036, down 50.3 percent from February 2017, according to the carmaker.
Total Volkswagen of America sales were 26,660 in February. That's the best February for the company since 2014.
For January and February, sales hit 51,404, up 5.7 percent over 2017, the company reported.
