Forney, Ala., couple charged with chemical endangerment of children

A Forney, Ala., couple was charged Monday with endangering children by using drugs in their presence at the couple's home.

Nicholas Lane Ryals, 28, and Kari Diane Thomas, 33, were each charged with chemical endangerment, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a statement released late Tuesday by Cherokee County Ala., Sheriff Jeff Shaver.

Shaver said the charges stem from a report to the Alabama Department of Human Resources "regarding children and illegal drugs."

"Investigators located a small amount of methamphetamine at the residence and discovered that the use of methamphetamine had taken place during a time the children were home," Shaver said in the statement.

Ryals and Thomas were arrested by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office investigator Brian Gilliland and booked at the Cherokee County Detention Center. No attorney, court date or bond amount were listed for either suspect.
