A Jasper, Tenn., man lost his life Wednesday after a pickup truck driven by a man from Decatur, Ala., crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 72 in South Pittsburg and crashed head-on into the other man.

Jasper resident Paul E. Gott Jr., 66, was pronounced dead at the scene where his 1999 Toyota Camry was struck head-on by a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Decatur resident William Lonnie Weaver, according to a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Trooper Brandon Summers states in his report that Weaver was headed north on Highway 72 at 10:20 a.m. CDT when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided on the driver's side of Gott's Toyota. Both vehicles came to rest in the middle of the highway.

Summers states that a minor, whose age not listed, was in Weaver's vehicle and was uninjured while Weaver was injured in the crash. His condition was not stated on the report.

Summers states that charges are pending in the crash and that a follow up report will be filed.
