Georgia woman pleads guilty to shooting teen in head

MACON, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia woman charged with shooting a teenage boy in the head as he and friends were near her house has pleaded guilty in the case.

The Telegraph reports lawyers announced Monday that 48-year-old Elisabeth Faye Cannon would plead guilty, just as jury selection in her case was to begin.

Cannon was accused of shooting and critically wounding then-15-year-old Vernon Marcus Jr. in January 2017. Cannon told investigators she fired shots intending to scare people away and didn't mean to shoot them. Investigators say she'd previously reported people throwing rocks at her house and vowed to shoot them if they returned.

She faces up to 20 years for aggravated assault at sentencing next week.

Vernon Marcus Sr. says his son is slowly recovering and "beginning to talk a little better."
