A 14-year-old boy drowned in Martha's Falls in Cherokee County, Ala., on Saturday afternoon, according to the county coroner.

First responders were called to the falls in the Little River Canyon National Preserve at 1:36 p.m. after Josue Andres Lopez of Rome, Ga., went under water and didn't resurface, a news release states.

Lopez's body was found downstream at 2:15 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton.

Lopez was a student in the Rome City School System.

Another drowning was reported Friday at Percy Priest Dam on the Stones River near Nashville.

Corey Polk, 19, was swimming at the dam when he lost his footing while climbing rocks above the water with his brother. Cherita Okoro, Polk's mother, said her older son tried to rescue Polk but was unable to save him.

Rescue crews searched the water for hours before recovering his body.

Polk was set to graduate from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro on May 19.
