Chattanooga firefighters responded to a vacant house fire on the 200 block of Hillside Drive on Thursday morning, according to a CFD news release.

Smoke and flames could be seen from the basement, and the fire spread to adjacent rooms, according to Captain Keith Liles.

Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the blaze, which caused approximately $2,000 in damage.

Condemnation signs had been posted on the house, but nearby neighbors told firefighters there were random occupants and vehicles occasionally seen on the property.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
