LAS VEGAS - Peter Uihlein birdied five of the last seven holes for a 5-under-par 66 and a two-stroke lead Friday at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Uihlein was at 13-under 129 overall at TPC Summerlin, with Whee Kim (65) and Robert Streb (66) tied for second and Abraham Ancer (66), Bryson DeChambeau (66) and Harold Varner III (67) another stroke back in fourth.

"I think we still have 36 holes," Uihlein said. "There is a lot of golf left. I've heard it could be windy tomorrow, so that could be challenging."

Kevin Tway (66) was seventh at 9 under, a stroke ahead of Cameron Champ (65), Danny Lee (66), Jordan Spieth (68) and José de Jesús Rodríguez, who still had two holes to go in his second round when play was suspended because of darkness.

Uihlein was par for the round through 11 holes, making a bogey on the par-4 second and a birdie on the par-4 fourth. On the back nine, he birdied Nos. 12-14, 16 and 18.

"I just like it," the 29-year-old former Oklahoma State golfer said about the course. "There are a lot of holes that set up well for me. A lot of just good sightlines with some good bunker placements. My distance control with my irons has been very good this week, so I've been able to have a kind of more stress-free two days."

The 2010 U.S. Amateur champion, Uihlein is looking for his first PGA Tour victory.

Baylor School graduate Harris English (65) was tied for 16th at 6 under. Chattanooga's Stephan Jaeger (70), another former Red Raiders standout, was tied for 98th at par, three shots off the projected cut line.

Rose holds two-shot lead

ANTALYA, Turkey - Justin Rose shot his second straight 6-under 65 and held a two-shot lead halfway through the Turkish Airlines Open, where the 38-year-old golfer is trying to repeat as a tournament champion for the first time in his professional career.

Fellow Englishman Tom Lewis shot a 63 - the lowest score of this year's event so far - and was tied for second with Danny Willett (65) and Thorbjorn Olesen (67), the tournament's 2016 champion.

A shot behind them at 9 under overall and tied for fourth in the European Tour event were Li Haotong (67), Sam Horsfield (67), Alexander Levy (66) and Adrian Otaegui, who was still bogey-free after a 65.

Rose was nine shots off the pace at this stage a year ago and prevailed, so despite his commanding position this time he didn't feel safe yet at Regnum Carya Golf Resort.

"I've shot two 65s. You can always have somebody from the chasing pack do the same thing," Rose said. "For me it's about keeping moving forward. Even par is not really going to get it done."

Rose could return to No. 1 in the World Golf Ranking with a win.

Ryu starts well in Japan

SHIGA, Japan - So Yeon Ryu shot a 7-under 65 and led by one shot after the first round of the Toto Japan Classic.

Japan's Nasa Hataoka and South Korea's In-Kyung Kim and Jiyai Shin were a stroke back, with 10 other players within three shots of the lead in the 54-hole tournament at Seta Golf Club.

Ryu, a 28-year-old South Korean, had five birdies on the last eight holes to underline her quick start in the event co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour and the LPGA of Japan Tour.

"For a three-round tournament, you're better to make sure you have a really, really good starting day," Ryu said. "I opened with a really good round, so I'm really happy that hopefully I can (play this well for) two more days."

Ryu is a six-time winner on the United States-based LPGA Tour and has one win on the Japanese tour. She is a nine-time winner on the LPGA of Korea Tour.

"My short game was really great today. I putted really well," she said. "I was struggling with my putting the last two weeks in Taiwan and Shanghai, but I'm so glad my putting worked well."

Mo Martin had a hole-in-one at No. 9, using a 5-wood on the 178-yard hole to finish with a 69, four shots off the lead. The LPGA Tour said Martin's ace was the 26th of the season.
