A new crop of cadets graduated Thursday night and joined the Chattanooga Fire Department, according to a news release.

Some of the new firefighters, who graduated in a ceremony at Clear Creek Church of Christ, began their first shifts Friday morning, department public information director Bruce Garner said.

Fire Chief Phil Hyman and training Chief William Andrews presided over the ceremony that featured remarks from retired New York City Fire Department Lt. Paddy Neville. City Court Judge Sherry Paty swore in the graduates.
