Bledsoe County authorities on Sunday arrested a father and son after an exchange of gunfire with another man in remote area west of Pikeville, Tennessee.

Michael Swafford and an unnamed man had a "verbal confrontation" in the area of Simmons Road and Old Mountain Road, according to the crime scene description in a post on the Bledsoe County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page.

Swafford and his son, Joshua Swafford, drove to the unnamed man's house Sunday where he was working in his front yard, authorities said in the post.

"A short time later the two pulled back up in front of the home and began to fire shots from the cab area of their pickup truck in the direction of the victim at which time the victim retrieved a nearby shotgun and returned a single shot back at the two Swafford males, striking their truck in the left front fender," the post states.

Witnesses told investigators they heard three to four shots fired from the truck, officials said.

Later on Sunday, four deputies went to the Swafford home and placed the father and son under arrest on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, officials said.

Both are being held with bond at the Bledsoe County jail, pending a hearing.
