A crash around 5 p.m. Monday involving a passenger car and a motorcycle claimed the life of a 40-year-old man on the motorcycle and injured the driver of the car, according to Chattanooga police.

Police said in a statement issued Tuesday that Edward Nathan Denoyes was on a Yamaha motorcycle traveling west on Cummings Highway under Interstate 24 overpass Monday and a Buick, driven by 56-year-old Calvin Lamb was stopped at the bottom of the off ramp from westbound I-24, according to a police statement on the crash.

Lamb entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Cummings HIghway when he was struck in the left rear quarter panel by Denoyes' motorcycle. Denoyes was "traveling at a high rate of speed," police said.

Denoyes "vaulted across the back of the vehicle and landed in the westbound lanes," police said.

Denoyes was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. Occupants of Lamb's vehicle received minor injuries, police said.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
