The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man booked on a DUI charge was found unresponsive in his cell and died on Wednesday.
Sheriff's office spokesman Matt Lea said in a news release that inmates called corrections deputies to the first-floor cell and reported Carl Bray III, 54, was unresponsive. Bray had been arrested Tuesday by the East Ridge Police Department, Lea said.
Deputies called an ambulance and began lifesaving efforts, but Bray later was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Lea said.
He said the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office asked the sheriff's office to investigate the death.
