A Bradley County homeowner who found a burglar in his house early this morning fought with the man before county deputies made an arrest.

Adam Lewis, spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, said Cody Tyler Appling, 31, is charged with aggravated burglary, auto burglary, resisting arrest, felony evading, driving on a suspended license, and possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Lewis said the owner of the home on Bates Pike Road called 911 after he found his back door ajar and someone inside the house. He tried to stop the burglar from escaping and the two fought before the thief fled in a gray Ford Ranger pickup.

Deputies pulled the truck over after a short pursuit and took Appling into custody after he attempted to resist, Lewis said. Investigators found the truck had been stolen, he said.

He was booked into the Bradley County Jail and his bond set at $20,000 pending a Nov. 20 court date.
