Man arrested for rape after Oct. 7 party

Chattanooga police arrested a man late last week after he allegedly raped a woman at her house after a party in the College Hill Courts area.

Police went to a local hospital in the early morning hours of Oct. 7 to speak with the victim who told them she was raped by Richard Hymon, 47, according to court records.

She told police she had invited friends and family, including Hymon, to her house for a few drinks, court records show. By midnight, everyone was leaving and the victim had begun cleaning her house when she started feeling sleepy.

At that point, the victim went upstairs to her bedroom and lay on her bed and fell asleep, court records state. The only adults left in her home were her sister and cousin, who were both sleeping.

The victim was then awakened at the bottom of her stairs with her shorts and underwear pulled down below her knees and Hymon on top of her having non-consensual sex with her, court records state.

She pushed Hymon back and asked him what he was doing, but he didn't respond. He got up, pulled his pants up and fled on foot.

The victim told police she knew Hymon but didn't have any kind of relationship with him, and she didn't know how he regained access to her home, court records show.

Hymon was arrested at his home 12 days later on Oct. 19 and charged with rape, according to an arrest report.

Hymon does not have an arrest record prior to the Oct. 7 charge in Hamilton County, online court records show.
