Georgia State Patrol arrested a St. Louis woman Tuesday after she allegedly crashed her car into a man in the emergency lane of Interstate 75, killing him.

According to a crash report, 42-year-old Ontaya Michelle Brooks lost control of her Nissan Altima around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday while driving south around mile marker 327 in Whitfield County. Her car veered into the emergency lane, where Denton Augustan Edmond stood behind a semi truck he had been driving.

One of the truck's tires had blown, and Edmond, 51, of Jacksonville, Florida, was inspecting the vehicle. He placed bright, safety triangles behind him to alert other drivers.

According to the report, Brooks' vehicle hit Edmond before stopping. Investigators listed fatigue as a potential contributing factor. An alcohol test is pending.

A trooper charged Brooks with failure to maintain lane and vehicular homicide.
