Man shot, arrested after domestic altercation in Chattanooga

A domestic altercation led to a man being shot in the foot early Sunday morning and then arrested Monday afternoon.

Corey Reynolds, 23, arrived at a local hospital via a personally owned vehicle for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, a Chattanooga police news release stated.

Police arrived shortly after, and Reynolds initially told police he was shot in the parking lot of the Speedway gas station at 3956 Brainerd Road. He then said he shot himself accidentally, court records show.

Later he told police he was untruthful about shooting himself and that he was actually shot in front of his apartment in the 3700 block of Chula Vista Drive, according to court records.

He said three or four men were arguing in front of a vehicle not far from where he was parked when he heard a gunshot and felt himself get hit in the foot, court records state.

When asked why he changed his story, Reynolds told police "he did not want to prosecute anyone or get in trouble."

But later that day, a woman arrived at the police station and reported that Reynolds had abused her Sunday morning and that was why she allegedly shot him in the foot, according to court records.

The woman told police Reynolds hit her in her face and pulled her hair, and he followed her out of the apartment cursing and being aggressive toward her.

Afraid, the woman went to her vehicle and took out a firearm. She told investigators she shot Reynolds in the foot because he was coming toward her and she was afraid he was going to continue hitting her.

Police noted the woman had injuries to her face, neck and torso. It also was noted Reynolds has a history of domestic violence toward the woman.
