Chattanooga police charge suspect in Sept. 9 shooting of man on Wheeler Avenue

A suspect was charged Wednesday in the shooting of a man earlier this month on Wheeler Avenue, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

Police charged Darius Woods, 26, with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Woods is currently in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.

Tavares Walker, 31, was found injured with multiple gunshot wounds in the 900 block of Wheeler Avenue on the morning of Sept. 9. The wounds were described as "non-life-threatening" by police.

The investigation is ongoing.
