UPDATE: The pedestrian's injuries are non-life-threatening.

The incident occurred in the railyard area, when the train was going about 8-10 miles per hour.

The engineer motioned to the pedestrian to get off the track, he did, but then he stepped back on and was struck.

ORIGINAL STORY: A man was struck by a train near Chestnut Street on Wednesday, Chattanooga police say.

Spokeswoman Elisa Myzal said the man sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The man's condition is not known at this time.
