EPB: 13,000 affected by 'cascade' of electric outages

About 13,000 customers were hit by electricity outages this afternoon due to an "electric system component failure," according to a news release.

The failure, which occurred at 5:37 p.m., led to a "cascade of outages" in areas including Moccasin Bend, Manufacturers Road, North Chattanooga, Red Bank and Hixson, reads the release from EPB public relations coordinator John Pless.

"EPB responded immediately and restored service to the majority of impacted customers in about an hour," the release states.

EPB employees are working "as quickly as possible" to make repairs to the system and restore service to the 200 customers who were still without power around 8:20 p.m., Pless said.

"At this time, we're working as quickly as possible to make repairs and restore service to the 200 customers who are still affected.
