Alabama pedestrian dies when hit by sheriff's car

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A pedestrian has been struck and killed by an Alabama sheriff's car.

Cpl. Thomas Whitten with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told news outlets a person was hit around 10:30 p.m. Monday by a Jefferson County sheriff's car in the Birmingham area.

The victim hit was in the road and died at the scene. The person's name has not been released yet.

Officials have not identified the deputy involved or described the circumstances.

The crash is still under investigation.
