Scottsboro, Alabama, man jailed after two-state chase

A Scottsboro, Alabama, man has been booked on multiple charges after he led authorities on a two-state chase on Tuesday from the man's hometown across Keith Springs Mountain in Franklin County, Tennessee, at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Franklin County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Guess said Jessie Ray Smith, of South Market Street, Scottsboro, is being held on a $35,000 bond on charges related to the chase, according to a statement posted on the department's Facebook page.

Guess said in the statement that Franklin County deputies got a call to the area of Circle E. Guest Ranch on Rowe Gap Road where they joined the pursuit headed north toward Winchester.

"The pursuit proceeded to the intersection of State Route 16 and [U.S.] Highway 64, where sheriff's office deputies were able to force the vehicle off the roadway and into the ditch," Guess said.

Smith was taken into custody at the scene. No one was injured.

Smith faces a date in Franklin County General Sessions Court Dec. 3. The crash is being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
