UPDATE: Chattanooga police on Sunday arrested a second suspect in the slaying of 18-year-old Areeyon Lane, who was found Saturday morning with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of East Third Street.
An unnamed juvenile suspect was charged in the fatal shooting on Saturday.
The second suspect, 18-year-old Ladarean Lane, is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony. He is in custody at the Hamilton County jail, police said Sunday in a statement updating the case.
ORIGINAL STORY: An unidentified juvenile has been taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide in a fatal shooting that occurred on East Third Street early Saturday morning.
According to a news release, Chattanooga Police responded at 3:46 a.m. to a shots fired call in the 1300 block of East Third Street. Upon arriving, they found 18-year-old Arecyon Lane suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Lane was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS, the release stated. When investigators arrived at the hospital, they were told that another person was being treated by medical staff for a single gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.
Investigators said they interviewed the person, a juvenile, who admitted to firing shots at Lane. The suspect was then transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Unit and charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and felony reckless endangerment.
