As the 2020 election season gets into gear, U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R-Tennessee, says he raised $1.27 million in the first quarter for his reelection bid for the 3rd District.

Campaign spokesman Dalton Temple said they're proud of the fundraising efforts so far.

"The success we see in fundraising is a direct reflection of the job Chuck Fleischmann is doing for the 3rd District of Tennessee in Washington, D.C., and the support this district has for our congressman," he said in a statement.

The Republican lawmaker from Ooltewah has served five terms. Last year, he faced challenges from Democratic opponent Danielle Mitchell and independent Rick Tyler, but he ultimately won with nearly 64% percent of the vote.

In an effort to raise more funds, Fleischmann will host House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy at a fundraiser Wednesday in Chattanooga.

So far, no challengers have announced for the next race.
