A wedding party took a turn Saturday night after a guest got into a fight and then tried to punch a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy.

Deputies were called to the wedding in the 2100 block of Suck Creek Road just before 8 p.m. after some guests began fighting, according to Hamilton County Court records. Vann Scribner, 24, was one of them.

People there told the officers that it was a non-alcoholic wedding, but some guests had been going out to their vehicles to drink, court records state.

Deputies then began talking to Scribner about what happened. But he kept going back to the crowd gathered outside the venue and tried to start an argument, court records show.

Scribner was repeatedly asked by deputies to "be quiet" and take a seat on a brick wall, but "due to his intoxicated state [he] was unable to," according to court records.

He "continued to talk loud and use profanity's [sic] with children and family's [sic] present ... causing everyone to focus their attention on him," court records state.

Deputies then decided to place him under arrest, asking him to place his hands behind his back. But Scribner turned around and tried to punch the deputy, court records show.

"He grabbed my face and scratched me in the left side near my temple area with his nails," the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

The deputy then punched Scribner in the jaw, but it "had no effect," court records state.

After a brief struggle, deputies finally got him into custody and charged him with assault on police, resisting arrest and public intoxication.

He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail where he was booked on a $7,500 bond.

Scribner was previously arrested in Hamilton County on a slew of charges on Feb. 19, 2017, according to online court records. In that case, he faced evading arrest, three counts of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and other traffic-related charges.
