East Ridge offering first citizen police academy

The East Ridge Police Department will be hosting its first citizen police academy, which will be aimed at teaching local residents about the department.

The ten-week class begins Sept. 16 and will go each Monday from 6-9 p.m. Only 10 participants will be accepted into the program on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a news release. Applicants must be 21 years old and an East Ridge resident, business owner or employee of an East Ridge business.

Class topics will include uniform patrol, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, the K-9 unit and more, the release states.

Applications will be available on the East Ridge city website or by visiting the police department at 4214 Ringgold Road from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
