McBrien Road crash kills one man, injures another Monday afternoon

A Monday afternoon, single-vehicle crash on McBrien Road left one man dead and the driver injured, according to Chattanooga police.

Police Information Officer Trevor Tomas said police responded to the 300 block of McBrien Road at about 3:13 p.m.

The vehicle had been traveling south on McBrien and the driver was negotiating a slight curve to the right when he went across the road to the left and overcorrected to the right, striking a tree and coming to rest against another in a yard.

The passenger, identified as Lamar Nelson, 69, was unrestrained and fatally injured, according to police.

The driver, Jonathan Nelson, 40, was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Chattanooga police closed all lanes of McBrien Road between North Terrace and Lynnland Terrace while they worked the scene of the accident.
