KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A former sergeant demoted for policy violations has asked a Tennessee judge to overturn the punishment, saying he was singled out for a sexual relationship with a co-worker while other employees weren't penalized for similar conduct.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Knoxville Officer Dennis Bible was demoted for violating vehicle-use policy, and leave procedures.
Recently obtained disciplinary documents say Bible violated the policies while having an affair with civilian employee Elizabeth Smith.
Bible admits to taking his cruiser to meet Smith for sex on several occasions in 2016. He also admitted to visiting Smith on paid leave.
Bible says the department's conduct code is vague and his punishment was severe. The department refused to comment.
