A teenager was shot in the leg Sunday evening in the 2500 block of O'Rear Street in a residential East Chattanooga neighborhood.

Neighbors came out and saw the teen lying outside and said he looked to be in his teens, they said. They did not wish to be identified.

Chattanooga police confirmed Monday that a 17-year-old male was shot and and transported to a local hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

The shooting was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. Investigators state the victim said he was walking down O'Rear Street when he heard gunshots and started running. That's when he realized he had been shot.

The teen said he would not cooperate with investigators, according to police.
