Heritage High School football coach E.K. Slaughter has been suspended from all football-related activities for this week after allegedly shoving one of his players by the helmet during last Friday's season opener against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

According to Heritage principal Ronnie Bradford, Slaughter shoved a player by the helmet back onto the field during the 17-16 win. Slaughter is being allowed to teach but cannot work with the football team for any practice or this week's home game against Ringgold.

"We expect every member of the Heritage High School staff to adhere to the highest professional standards in all of their interactions with our students," Bradford said in a released statement. "Coach Slaughter quickly realized that his actions were wrong and apologized to the player involved and his family. We addressed his actions, and he will be suspended from football for one week."

Generals defensive coordinator Jeremy New is filling the role of head coach for this week.
