Second-half Furman rally sends UTC women to road loss

Furman overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to hand the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga a 61-54 Southern Conference women's basketball loss Thursday evening in Greenville, South Carolina.

The Mocs (11-13, 6-3) lost their second consecutive league road game. They were led in scoring by Lakelyn Bouldin with 16 points, Brooke Burns with 12 and Arianne Whitaker with 11. La'Jzae Davidson topped Furman (15-10, 7-3) with 20 points, including nine in the fourth quarter.

UTC led 32-22 after a Bria Dial 3-pointer with 7:56 remaining in the third quarter, but the Paladins ended the period on an 8-0 run to send the game into the final quarter tied at 37. It was 39-all when Davidson hit a pair of free throws, with she and Milica Manojlovic following with 3-pointers and Kaitlyn Duncan a jumper for a sudden 10-point lead.

The Mocs never got closer than five the rest of the way. They ended the game just 6-for-29 from 3-point range, with the Paladins hitting on six of their 12 tries from 3-point range.

UTC completes its three-game road stretch Saturday at Wofford, with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
