Centre, Alabama, man killed in crash near Fort Payne

A single vehicle crash early Wednesday in DeKalb County, Alabama, claimed the life of a 45-year-old man from Centre in Cherokee County.

Christopher Lee O'Neal was killed when the 1985 Chevrolet S-10 he was driving struck a tree lying in the roadway on U.S. Highway 11 at 4:12 a.m. CST, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Curtis Summerville said in a news release.

O'Neal was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, Summerville said.

The crash happened at mile marker 223, about a mile south of Fort Payne. An investigation into the crash is continuing.
