Two killed, one listed in critical condition in fatal collision at East Main Street intersection in Chattanooga

UPDATE: Chattanooga police have identified the victims in Thursday night's fatal crash on South Holtzclaw Avenue, according to a news release.

Mechele Lane, 38, died at the scene. Lorenzo Jarret Jr., 41, later died at a local hospital, and 60-year-old Melvin Tibbs remains in critical condition.

ORIGINAL STORY: A fatal two-car crash at the intersection of East Main Street and South Holtzclaw Avenue left two dead and one person in critical condition, while passengers from one of the vehicles left the scene, according to a news release.

A Dodge Ram was traveling east on East Main Street and a Chrysler TWC was traveling south on South Holtzclaw Avenue when the two vehicles collided in the intersection, causing the Chrysler to roll over and strike a utility pole.

Three of the four occupants of the Dodge Ram fled the scene.

Emergency officials responded to the scene and transported the front seat passenger of the Chrysler to a local hospital, where he later died due to his injuries. A passenger in the back of the Chrysler was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 60-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The lone passenger who didn't flee the Dodge Ram, a 21-year-old woman, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries where she was treated and released.

The investigation is ongoing.
