President Donald Trump today praised German automaker Volkswagen for its planned $800 million investment into its Chattanooga operations to build electric cars.

The project is expected to bring 1,000 new jobs to the city, the company said on Monday at the Detroit auto show.

"Congratulations to Chattanooga and Tennessee on a job well done," Trump wrote on Twitter Tuesday. "A big win!"

Trump has frequently focused on boosting the auto industry in the U.S. since he entered office.
